Hot Takes

The opinion-splitting game for any group.

Hot Takes is the simplest social game we make. Someone throws out an opinion, everyone votes agree or disagree, the split lands live on screen. The disagreement is the point. Once the room sees that 60% disagreed with the boss on a workplace question, the conversation runs itself. Players join from their phones with a QR code (no app, no signup), votes are anonymous by default, and a single round takes 90 seconds.

How to play

  1. 1

Pick or write a hot take

Use one of our built-in packs (work, party, classroom) or write your own. A good hot take is opinion-based, low-stakes, and splits the room. Not "the sky is blue" and not "war is bad."

  2. 2

    Show the QR code

Players scan with their phone camera. They name themselves, that is it.

  3. 3

    Vote agree or disagree

Each player taps one of two buttons on their phone. The big screen shows a live tally with bars filling in real time as votes land.

  4. 4

    Discuss the split

The most interesting part. The host calls on the minority side first ("Three of you disagreed. Who wants to defend it?") and a real conversation starts.

Example prompts

  • Standups should be 5 minutes, not 15.
  • Pineapple on pizza is fine.
  • Open offices killed productivity.
  • AI will replace product managers within 5 years.
  • Working from home is better than the office, full stop.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a round take?

About 60 to 90 seconds for the vote, plus 1 to 2 minutes of discussion. Three rounds fits comfortably in 5 minutes.

Are votes anonymous?

Yes by default. The screen shows the split count, not who voted which way. Players choose a display name when they join, so they can use a real name or stay anonymous.

Can I write my own hot takes?

Yes. The Host Plan ($9/mo) includes custom content packs so you can write hot takes for your team, company, or class.

Is this work-appropriate?

The default work pack is, yes. Use the work pack for office settings and the party pack for adults-only contexts. The classroom pack is built for grades 6 to 12.
